Fall Travel Capsule

Creating a fall capsule wardrobe involves selecting versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched, in order to fit it all in a carry-on suitcase, my preferred way to travel. Here’s a general guideline for what to pack for a ten day trip:

  1. Tops (4) long sleeve tee, sweaters, sweatshirt in neutral colors
  2. Bottoms (3) a pair of jeans (dark wash) trousers, leggings or wide leg comfy pants
  3. Outerwear (2-3) blazer, wrap coat, shacked (depending on the weather of your destination)
  4. Jumpsuit or Dress both can be dressed up or an evening out, or casual for daytime sightseeing
  5. Shoes comfortable sneakers for walking, boots for evenings or daytime, clogs or loafers
  6. Accessories: scarf for warmth & style, jewelry, sunglasses & optional belt, handbag

Outfit Ideas:

• Create multiple outfits from the tops, bottoms, and outerwear. Mixing and matching neutral pieces with a pop of color or pattern can give you diverse looks.

• Layering is key for fall, so wear your long-sleeve shirt under the short-sleeve top or with the jacket for warmth.

Remember to check the weather forecast for your destination to adjust your capsule accordingly. With these tips, you can have a stylish and compact fall wardrobe in your carry-on suitcase.

Packing Tips:

  • Roll your clothes: Rolling clothes saves space and minimizes wrinkles.
  • Use packing cubes: These help keep items organized and make it easier to find what you need.
  • Wear bulky items: If you have a bulkier coat or boots, wear them on the plane to save suitcase space.
  • Maximize your personal item: Use a large tote or backpack as your personal item to carry additional essentials like electronics, toiletries, and a book.
  • Limit toiletries: Pack travel-sized toiletries and consider buying full-sized items at your destination.
